Take your oil fill cap off and turn it upside down and place it on top of the valve cover over the oil fill hole. If it blows the cap off you have excessive blow by. It is just sits there and kinda rattles off, you're probably cool. Diesel engine make blow-by. That's just the ay they are because they have so much compression.
Unless you really lug the motor in first or second gear, your not going to see much for boost.
Even when hauling with my stickshift I don't make over 2 or 3 PSI in first or second.
At least you can save your boost between shifts. I loose all mine. =)
These guys got a lot of great suggestions for you to check out.
But unless your truck can breath, your never going to see much for boost numbers.
A good turbo back exhaust and intake will wake any diesel up.
Thanks everyone, and happy thanksgiving. I reset my batteries, cleaned, and did some order of emlimination work on my truck. The connector to my transmission linkage was wet with fluid, and gumped up with mud also. It does shift smoother now. I ran a code reader, all clear! Im going to look into a different intake on this truck. It seems very restricted being right under the hood, I even thought about running it without the first part of the intake on it. I might would consider exhaust but kind find any that meets my budget at the moment. The turbo growls a little now, and seems ok. If anyone has had any positive experience with exhaust and intakes let me know. Any other ideas are always welcome. Thanks again fellas!
As far as intakes go, go to Riffraff diesel (online) and get their 6637 kit. For less than $100 you can get a really free flowing intake that will replace that stock airbox. As far as exhaust goes, I intend to assemble my own from ready bought components and it looks as though I can get everything including the down pipe for around $200. Seems like a good deal to me. Good luck and stick around here. We will help you ensure the best bang for your buck.
Would it hurt to remove the air intake throat? because it seems like the hood pretty much cuts off air. It seems stupid to put the hood over the intake, i hope this is the right intake or hood for this truck. That seems like a cheap price for a few mods.
Bob at dieselorings.com has the orings for the ccv you are talking about. I'm not sure if clay at riffraff has them or not. I did my exhaust for about 200 bucks also, downpipe included. No cat or muffler, just straight pipe exiting in front of rear tire. Definitely go with riffraff's intake.

Well I installed a new neutral safety switch, and it helped alot. The comnectors had oily grime in them. It still shifts weird but smoother than it ever has. So my problems might all be electrical.
I think you need to start doing one thing at a time and you will see that the little things add up. I suggest the 6637 filter mod as a starting point. Either buy the filter at NAPA and use a PVC elbow, or buy the whole kit from Riffraff. The other thing you need to do is gut that cat (or else just eliminate it).
Ok! Tranny shop owner drove my truck and stated that the whole trans system seemed perfect. He also held my brake and stood on throttle and it just revd up and made noise, didnt even try to cut loose. I have recently gutted cat, and built homeade 6637. I replacedfuel filter, and cleaned screen on fuel housing. This truck couldnt out pull a chevy s10 with the way its running right now. Anyone have ideas?
