Starter issues? acceleration rattle. help!

So i fired up the truck yesterday, i accidentally thought that it didn't catch and turned the key again. ever since then when driving(not really at idle) it sounds like "sheet metal rattling" near the floorboard/bell housing, it also gets much louder and faster as i accelerate.

now the starter has been acting up whenever i start it as well making all sorts of noises. it definitely sounds like a need a new one, but i am slightly concerned about the loud rattling on acceleration.

its pissing rain outside right now so i haven't had a chance to climb under and check things out.

what do you think? i am fairly green at the old fords.

thanks!

Just have to get under there and look, possible you munched the starter snout or broke something.

Just a guess but it may not even be starter noise. Is it a standard tranny? Dies it have a multiple finger type clutch? The fingers on clutch might be rattling. See if there is good pressure against clutch bearing or they can rattle. Just a guess but I had this.
Does the noise go away with clutch pushed in? That's a sign that might be the issue even more so.

You should pull the starter and check out the starter drive gear. You could have damaged it when you "accidentally thought that it didn't catch and turned the key again".

my only concern is that you cant hear the noise at idle in park. but when you throw it in drive and accelerate the noise gets louder. it seems to only be rattling at 1/4 throttle and above (getting louder and faster as you accelerate)

think the starter drive gear could cause that? also kinda worried it might be the ring gear or flexplate?

Just guessing a C6 has an inspection plate like a C4. Pull it and see if you can see whats going on. Chunks may fall out when you remove it and you'll know what it is.

so i got underneath the beast this morning before work. just to pull the inspection plate and see if i could notice any issues......well....there was NO inspection plate to bee seen!. i guess the previous owner never put one on!!! oh god..well i guess i know i at least need one of those.

any idea where i could get one from? i heard they are obsolete.

i didn't have enough time to pull the starter though. hope to get that done tomorrow or Saturday.
