I hooked up a new battery, and cranked the old flat 6 over yesterday. It felt good! However, after sitting for 20+ years, the starter is REALLY creaky and squeaky. And there doesn't seem to be any way to lubricate it from the outside.
I don't mind pulling the starter off and cleaning it up, but I'd rather wait until after I get the motor running again. Since these starters are not cheap, however, I don't want to junk it process... so do I need to immediately worry about this noise?
