2002 Excursion--Electrical issue
I have a 2002 Ford Excursion, Diesel 4wd. On occasion the radio and power windows go out but come back on in a fair amount of time. I have checked all the fuses and didn’t see anything suspicious. What could cause this? and what should I do to troubleshoot/fix?
Thanks,

The two systems do share a common line at one point. They do not share grounds.
Connector C270 coming out of the CJB (central junction box) provides power for the windows and the radio from the Accessory delay relay. The relay is a integral part of the CJB.
So, the way I see it the possibilities are the feed to the acessory delay relay is going bad, or the wiring to it from the instrument cluster is screwed up. Also the output of the accessory relay has a intermittent connecion in connector C270
See the link for a diagram.

Output J goes to the side vent windows and output A goes to the power windows.

The link worked for me. You have to scroll down into the page to get the download or the preview.

What I have found that is as the weather changes, it can affect some eletrical connections on these trucks. When it gets really cold the connections on the back of the cluster will shrink therefore leading to a loose connection. When it warms up it swells up and the connection is tight and a good contact is made. Im wondering if it may be a flawed connection due to the plastics properties being made from a cheap batch of plastic.

Just as a chance, have you ever had your windshield leak? I just had to replace my fuse box because it leaked and messed up the connections on the FB. While doing research, many report having radio and window issues prior to finding out this is this problem. Problem is, you can't tel if the FB is corroded without breaking it apart, though most say it goes back together with some duct tape and the harness connections.
Also, you can pull the GEM module off and look at those connections, as they can show corrosion too.
Just a possibility.

I just spent $200 to get a turn signal to work. What frosted me is that AAA said they need to pull out the multifunction switch to diagnose the problem which I am told ended up being the pig tail connector having a short. I get the impression from this forum that electrical problems are one of the biggest headaches with the Ex.

This same thing has been ongoing with my 2003 2wd for close to a year now. Sometimes under a hard acceleration the power goes out then will come back on sometimes within a few minutes, sometimes longer. The last couple of times I have give the top of the dash over the intrument cluster a hard hit and all comes back on. I'm thinking that since it goes out sometimes just from taking off fast there must be some loose connection that's affected by the movement. Some day I'm going to take the instrument cluster out and check all the connections, just don't know when.
