Ok, so I feel a little dumb having to ask this, but here goes.
I bought my baby (93 7.3 IDI) a couple of months back and I recently changed the fuel filter. When taking off the bowl, it was a struggle as it was on there good, but I got it. When I replaced the bowl, I snugged it up, fired the truck and was leaking bad. So I took it back off, checked and verified the gaskets and put the bowl back on, this time tightening with everything I had. Worked fine upon inspection. I started her up over the weekend and looked around and noticed a small drip from between the bowl and filter, not at the top. I though for sure I had the bowl on tight enough, or maybe too tight??? Thanks guys!
Mine does this exact same thing. Well should say did. Odd part is though it would only leak part of the time, and when it did leak, it was pretty noticable. Long story short, my new filter didnt come with a seal, so not thinkin about it i just wrenched it on till it didnt leak ( most of the time). I found a seal that was about the right size at my uncles shop and stuck it on there. Leak free now, but the o ring is made for irrigation, so i doubt it will last that long against diesel.
I have heard of people having to replace the bowl though, however, im not sure why.
I have a Wix with just the drain right now because my stock bottom started to leak at the drain. Got the seal from IH and fixed it but now waiting on the next filter change to put it back on with my Purolator fuel filter. By the way, since I had to take the drain apart and see how it works I can say, don't over tighten it ,thats what killed the seal. Also replaced the oring on the WIF sensor.

They do cost more, but the lack of leaks and headaches make it worth the cost in my opinion
When I switch back to the factory setup I'am going to keep the other Wix I bought (got two from Amazon.com) in the truck in case I have to change one on the road

My sentiments exactly! Ill be making the swap this weekend, just before I put her in the shop for a lift, single-mass flywheel swap, bigger feet and some stacks

Same here that was one of the first things that I did was change it over to a regular spin on filter, since mine was leaking and after the first filter change and farting around with the bottom. Just went to the spin on with the drain on the bottom. NAPA, Carquest is where I have found mine
