is there a difference between these mufflers. the muffler I have is rotted through ( 88 7.3IDI ) I can get a muffler from a late model F150 for free , is it oke
to put it on my truck?
I don't personally see a reason either I love my ol girl though (she gonna get me in trouble if I don't change it here soon though the po had true dual stacks and he cut them off because he took it to a scrap yard right now it's the manifolds and about a foot of exhaust coming from them
any muffler will work if its the right size. for those who focus on performance, they want a much larger muffler to increase airflow, but honestly thats the only reason for choosing a much more expensive muffler - well that and getting the desired sound.
put it on there, and if you ever get around to upgrading the exhaust for a bigger one, you can upgrade then - even if thats 5 years down the road

it would be cheaper for you to buy the much larger diesel muffler just in the fuel savings alone George.
the smaller gas muffler will increase EGT's which if get too high, can ruin your engine.
i vote no overall,it's not ok to put on your truck.id never do it anyway.
some times free parts can be very expensive parts.
I took my whole exhaust off of my N/A 7.3. Had the weld shop build me two 3" straight pipes that exit out in front of the rear wheels. Gotta love that diesel bark...
Hi fordf250hdxlt,
the gasmuffler I got is a lot bigger than the one I have on the truck now, it is about a foot longer and half a foot bigger so I guess it wont hurt to put the big muffler on.
now I wonder about the backpressure maybe the flow of the new one is better.
grts
muffler physical size does not matter. it is the pipe size and amount of baffles that matter. if the pipe is too small and there are too many baffles in the muffler, you will have too much back pressure.
i saw a guy put a large gas muffler on a diesel once and he got all of about 1/4 mile before the pressure built up when he was standing on it, the muffler blew off the truck, almost killing the person in the car behind him.
If you want a cheap muffler, go to a muffler shop and buy a 2.5" glasspack... $20 , it will be plenty quiet, and dont have to worry about restriction. Best part is they dont rust out, or at least ive never seen one do it.
