Original Controller, 8 new Beru plugs, worked fine. Controller got wet from rain, WTS light would come on, but plugs wouldn't glow.
Replaced controller with unit from Autozone. Worked fine for about 2 weeks.
One day, WTS light just flashed on, then rhythmic clicking of controller. Upon investigation, controller was burnt where metal ribbon thing went into bottom, where glow plug harness is attached.
Took burnt controller back toi Autozone and got new unit. Still just a brief WTS flash and rhythmic clicking.
Tests I have done:
Power at Hot terminal 12.5 V always on
Power at red ignition terminal 12.5 when key is on
No power at glow plug harness
Jumped white wire to engage relay, no power at glow plug terminal
checked continuity of harness: pass all 8
checked continuity of glow plugs, all under .8 ohm
Put old controller back in, WTS comes on fro 15 secs, no power to glow plug terminal.
Yep, I read that thread. All the tests were positive, glow plugs check out, harness resistance checks out, voltage supply to the controller is fine. I just get no voltage to the glow plug side of the relay under any run condition, even when I jump the white wire to manually close the relay...
Ok, I was getting 12V power to the main terminal BUT, when tracing the yellow wires, only one had 12V, the other was burned up, way up next to the battery... spliced in a patch and it now works as intended.
I've been trying to figure the same problem on my old controller the terminal were the glow plug wire atached at the bottome of the s shape metal strip thing melted right off was this the same as yours

I have no idea what melted my old controller, I hope the new one doesn't melt
Ya I just put in a new controller yesterday and I started the truck up than went and touched the meal strip thing it was red hot so I shut off truck and unhooked batterys. So it wouldn't happen again. But now I see one of the power wires was burnt on yours I will check my power wires to maybe it trying to draw tomuch power from to small of a wire and heating up. Mine melted the stud with green wire attached right off the controller

Yep, that is just where my last one melted. Autozone replaced it no questions asked, lets see how long this one goes...
I wish I had autozone in Canada you f it up and they say " we don't return electrical parts" stupid
Yeah, years ago (the 80's), when I was in the parts business, we would never had taken it back, electrical parts were a big no-no. I was a bit surprised myself they didn't even blink...
Yeah I had the same problem on my 85, and bought a manual kit on ebay (about the same price as a controler) been about a year now and no problems Mudguts
