i have a 1976 ford f150 4x4 with a 400 out of a 77 ltd, (true dual exhaust) and recently there has been smoke coming out of the driver side pipe what would cause this? im not sure if this has anything to do with the engine or the tranny(4speed) but it shakes between "idle" and high rpm no idea could it be a push rod and also on the same pipe there is black liquid coming out to
Do a compression test, then do a leak down test on any cylinders with low numbers. If it passes those, then it's either valve guides or a bad intake gasket. I had a 460 that smoked, everyone said rings, but after passing a compression test with flying colors, I pulled the intake and two cylinders were sucking oil out of the lifter valley.
im hoping it is a seal or something gonna try and do a compression test sometime this week but might have another engine i found in the paper its another 400 though
