I try not to bother you guys very often...but now I have a problem that I may have figured out, and just need your expert advice. '05 F350 SD CC DRW 6.0 120,000 miles. I have a SCANGAUGE II setup, and recently got an EGR code (I think it was P1335) anyways, I figured I'd pull the EGR and clean it. Went to the dealer and got the gasket and O ring kit...and proceeded to pull it apart. No big deal. Came right out, and wasnt very bad at all. I cleaned it using carb cleaner, and was careful not to get any up into the body of it. I took an awl and pushed open the valve (which it opened kinda easy), and used the shaft of the awl to keep it open while I cleaned everything real good. I take the awl out..and the valve closed kinda slow in my opinion. So...thinking I'm a genius..I decide to put a light coating of high temp NEVER SEIZE all over the lower body of the EGR. I was thinking that maybe the soot and carbon wouldnt stick to the valve then. So, I put it all back together, and the truck fires right up (way faster than it did before). I'm thinking I'm golden. I go on a trip (about 50 miles one way)...truck seems to run great...till the last 5-7 miles on the way there. Seems to lose a little power, and when I give it the throttle...alot of black smoke is shooting out the exhaust. I kinda baby it all the way back home. My thought is: the EGR valve is probably weak, or operating intermitantly. I thought I read somewhere that they should be kinda hard to open (if they are in good shape) when you clean them ? I'm assuming that it should close back up quickly after I took the awl out of it. I dunno...just seemed sorta weak. I didnt get any codes at any time after the cleaning. Your thoughts please ? Thanks.
(oh...and there was no moisture in the hole it came out of)
I would think it should have some resistance to open up Just cuz of the fact its a Boosted moter and you dont want high boost pressure forcing it to far open
might want to double check that code Im not shure its a egr code
It was an EGR code dont see this one to often
P1335 EGR Position Sensor "A" Minimum/Maximum Stop Performance
I pulled my egr and cleaned it a while back. mine seemed to open pretty easy and closed pretty quick. I've read alot of negative things about egr's so i plan on just deleting mine come beginning of the year. But from what i understand if you were having egr problems it should throw a code. But the black smoke could be a sign of egr problems. Does your truck seem to lose power at times and then get surges of power? if it does you might want to try cleaning your icp sensor.my 04 was doing that, but after i cleaned the icp it went away
