Rear axle code on 06 EB Expedition is "15". I found out that is a 3.31. The salesman at the Ford dealer we purchased this from told me it would handle the 8,950# rating since it is an EB model. Anyone know what the actual rating is?

I hate to assume but the 3.31 was only available in the 2WD model. Assuming yours is a 2WD and the 3.31 is the correct ratio, according to the 2006 Ford Trailer Towing Guide your maximum trailer weight is 6,000 lbs. the maximum for the 2WD with 3.73 gears is 8,900 lbs., the maximum for the 4WD with 3.73 with the Heavy Duty Towing package is 8,600 and it's 6,000 without the HD Trailer package.
The dealer is wrong. The Eddie Bauer package has nothing to do with it.
By the way, you can download a copy of the Towing Guide here:

John, I own a 2006 Ford Expedition Limited 4WD. Looking at the vehicle tag it says I have an H6 axle which I believe translates to a 3.73 Limited Slip gear & ratio. I have all but concluded that my towing capacity is at least 8,600 lbs. I have the factory installed tow package. What I am trying to determine is if there are actually two types of tow packages... standard tow package and heavy duty tow package. I need help in determining which one I have? I am towing a Jayco Jay Flight TT which has an unloaded weight of 6,676 lbs and a GVWR of 8,500 lbs. Thanks for any help you can give.
For 2006 click on it and go to page 20. It indicates 8900 lbs with the heavy tow package. There are two gear sets. do you have your window sticker to see what you have?
My sticker indicates my axle ratio is H6 which I understand is the 3.73 limited slip. Since I have a 4X4 appears from the tow guide that my tow rating with the heavy duty tow package is 8,600 lbs.

a little late to the party here, but here's what I've been able to find out about mine:
all expeditions of those years came with either the standard towing package, or the HD towing package.
the standard towing package comes with either 3.31 or 3.73 open gears, 4 pin connector and a 8 row transmission cooler. towing capacity for this combination is 6,000 lbs regardless of gears or package.
the HD towing package comes with 3.73 Limited Slip gears, 4 pin and 7 pin connector and an upgraded transmission cooler (14 row IIRC). towing capacity for this is 8900 4x2 and 8600 4x4.
after much research on mine, that is the best information I have found.

.
In 99, my optional pkg for 880.00 was called a "trailer towing package." They didn't differentiate between HD and Standard.
Sounds like later models used different vernacular.
