2008 F150 Parking Brake Control Unit: a question
Any amount of Googling/Searching I do for parking brake cable tension on me leads me to discussions about adjusting the rear parking brake shoes to set cable tension. I am thinking my case is not quite the same as tensioning adjustments needed because of normal cable wear. On alldatadiy , there is a procedure that calls for pulling on the cable from the bottom of the truck until a pair of holes aligns on the control, then inserting a pin through the frame and the take-up spool to hold the tension while you disconnect the cable itself. This has me wondering..... the parking brake cable control: does this thing have a pre-loaded tension of some kind built into IT?? In other words... could the mis-hap I had, have cause the cable to make a jump that went all the way to the control and "released" some tension ing mechanism that NOW has to be corrected?
I ask this because, when I pull the parking brake release.... it's like the pedal doesnt even want to come back up to the top. I can reach under and pull it back up but it does not want to snap back by itself. Also, the dash BRAKE light is now lit full time!
I can not find much information on this brake cable control unit anywhere. Alldata has a procedure to pull it out and it doesn't look bad at all.....so i am wondering if I need to do that... to correct a problem on the control itself.
I hope my description of this makes sense enough that someone might be able to give me an idea what I am looking for here.......
Thanks, in advance, for any assistance.
Bob
