Batteries - Save some $$$
Batteries - Save some $$$
Just thought I'd share - all this talk about batteries and FICM's recently and my Motorcraft batteries have bit the dust. For the replacements, I can:
1. Go awesome and choose the Die Hard Platinum 930CCA batteries, normally $219.99 each but now on sale for $199.99
2. Go OEM and pick up a pair of 850CCA Motorcraft replacements for $109-$119/ea
3. Go Energizer @ the local Sams Club at get a pair of 850CCA's with a 36 month free replacement and (I think) and 84 mo prorated replacement for $84.97.
4. Go Interstate and get their 850CCA batteries for $134/ea with a 30 month free replacement and (I think) 100 mo pro rated.
One (ugh) of my Motorcraft batteries is only 14 months old and getting Ford to honor the warranty is a pain.
I think I'm going to go Energizer even though I really like the Die Hard platinums. I don't need to be repairing my own FICM when I know that my 12.19 float batteries are going to kill it in short order if I don't act quickly. I dipped down to 10.7 volts during cranking yesterday. Yikes.
12.7 volts here we come!

Battery nerd. That's funny. I guess my work with FICM's has turned me into one of those. Isn't that, like, Step One of the Twelve Step Program?

I bought a pair of motorcraft batteries for my 6.0 from the local parts store, the 3 yr free replacement can't be beat, I replace them every year.
If I had to pay for them I wouldn't buy motorcraft again, inevitably 10-14 mos one of them craps their britches every time.

What parts store carries the Motorcraft batteries? Dealing with those folks is way easier than dealing with Ford...

Holy hell, thats a ton of money for batteries!
I get my batteries from Costco. The Kirkland brand is actually made by Johnson Controls which also OEM's pretty much the same exact battery/specs and 36/100month warranty to Motorcraft, high-end Sears Diehards, and quite a few other brands (I think some of the better ones from Walmart). The last one I picked up for my F150 was about $80 for the next size bigger than stock with 850CCA 36/100 warranty, and it fills up the battery tray completely.

You mean I should be able to pull the batteries, take them to them, and get a warranty replacement right there?
Also, when I pulled the batteries, I noted that they were Motorcraft, but only 750CCA since the truck came from the south US. Will the dealer let me pay the difference to upgrade to the 850's (if they even stock the 750's?)?
I am typing this from my iPhone in Sams club parking lot. I think I'm going back to the homestead while I await this answer.
Thanks guys!

policy changes from dealer to dealer. however there should be no more then the need of the invoice and the battery. contact the parts department and do it as an over the counter warranty replacment.
that is normally the best way. the invoice should be proof enugh of the date of install. they can also test the battery without the truck.
