Pulley removal tool
Pulley removal tool
Does anybody here know if a pulley removal/installer tool made for V6 engines will work on my V8?? There's one at my Auto Value in town here for only $20 but the guy said it's only for the V6 engine. Wouldn't it be the same for the V8? Cause I need to pull the pulley off of my power steering pump to replace it.
Power steering pulleys aren't engine specific. Any PS pulley puller will work with your truck.
Don't listen to guys that work in discount auto parts stores. They are generally clueless. Last time I asked to rent that tool, the guy came back with an ordinary (albeit large) 3-jaw puller. There is more to the tool you need than that.

Yea I'd agree the engine shouldn't make any difference and the tool itself should be universal in nature enough to make up for any foreseeable differences between I6 and V8 models pump shaft size (again, if there is any).
The one I used was, various size pitch/diameter threaded shafts and collars sizes to use for couple different models.
Might better rent one for same money, the one I used was of high quality and took about all it had get the pulley off and back on again.
One sold for 20 bucks at auto value no doubt made in China and will likely create more work in the end then actually do for ya.
Example you strip the threaded hole in the pump shaft or bust the tool off in it? you be pretty much screwed use that pump again.
Oh and yea lol "3 jaw puller" why am I not surprised!

I just got the tool from my local O'Reillys. It was out this morning but I went back to check again after I went to Auto Value and it just so happened to be back in so I rented it out. Yeah it's funny the idiot at the Auto Value place said I could just use their 3 jaw puller instead, and just hammer the pulley back on. I'm just like.... WTF? lol

A 3 jaw will totally ruin the pulley, and hammering it back on will ruin the new pump.... Don't you just love it!!!???
There was a user on here a few months ago that recommended hammering the pump back on. Quite a heated thread that was.

Not all of us parts guys are retards. Just sayin.

The good ones are usually found at napa/carquest then you have your small town parts stores that have been there since the town was built and so has the guy behind the counter lol. all the rest are pretty much big box type setups, pay the crappiest and get the worst knowledgeble people for it.
That's true... there are some very knowledgeable people at a few places.
