V10 starting problems

I have a 2009 f250 v10. Sometimes it cranks for a while before starting. Anyone have any ideas as to why?

119,000 miles. I just bought it and don't know much past maintenance history other than the ford oasis I had ran on it. It has no blow by nor does it smoke any.

You first need to post this on the 6.8-V-10 forum down on the list. Second thing I would do is clean the MAS and go from there.

I'd start with the plugs.

Plugs, air filter, fuel filter.

Give it a tune up, perhaps a new battery, then see how it starts.

It has been hooked to the computer at a ford dealer. ECM shows no misfires and the check engine light is not on.

Just had a friend tell me that a diaphragm in the fuel pump could have a hole in it allowing fuel pressure to bleed off.

I don't believe the electric in-tank pumps have diaphragms, they're turbine style.

Replace the fuel filter, check the fuel pressure, and of course do the other "maintenance" items that others have noted in this thread. Clean MAF, IAC, replace PCV & air filter, COP boots and plugs. NEVER a bad idea to handle these things.

You do not have a mechanical fuel pump. That advice might be appropriate if you were driving a 1974 F-250 with a 390 CID V-8 in it.
