i wouldn't say that.if you drive the truck a lot, the savings can be phenomenal between direct drive and over drive.check out some zf5 swap threads.it's not that hard to do.well worth the efforts.
it would be the first mod i made to an older truck with c6/4 speed personally (but using the E40D instead.)
With 235/85/16 tires you should be running about 2510 rpm's at 55.
If you had 3.55's you would be at about 2175 rpm's. You are looking at about 335 rpm's less, it should make a little difference in your pocketbook.
If you switched to a ZF5 you would be down to about 1955
if you swapped both 3.55 gears and ZF5 you would be down to about 1700 at 55 and 2150 at 70.
hey trust me I don't get 15+ I have a 92 F350 ATS turbo...I get 13 mpg and 10-11 towing 9,000-11,000 lbs. Try this though I measured my fuel mileage from Chevron and Maverick. Repeatedly Chevron gave me 11 mpg at most...Maverick gave me 13 mpg consistently...and I was really conservative with the Chevron fuel. Don't know how to explain this one...beater trucks take beater fuel I guess lol. My question to you is, does your truck cold start now w/out plugging it in?
Ha! well, that's like a trick question to me right now. Like i said, truck is new to me and I only got to look it over a little bit while I was home. Didn't start on its own cold at all. It would blow smoke but never even start hitting on a cylinder (about 15-20* mornings). I plugged it in for about an hour/ hour and a half and it fired right up. Small puff of smoke at first fire and then good to go. Did this for a couple days until I had time to look at the gp system. It is converted to manual button already. I ohm tested the plugs.... all 8 open! Didn't even think to check brand and ran out of time to replace them before I came back to work. So hopefully they will come out easy in a couple weeks and they aren't all swollen . But I figure engine and fuel system are good if it will start without gp's and only plugged in for about an hour or so!
i had just replaced all 8 gp and injectors but it still has to be plugged in overnight...however, my buddy's powerstroke starts up in the morning with bout a 10 sec crank without being plugged in, in otherwords I think i have more things to check, just got done with my tie rods but I'll be looking at the relay and connectors and see if thats the problem I'll let you know it could be the same on yours

really can't compare the idi to the psd in the starting category since the direct injection helps alot vs. indirect injection. a kid in high school had a 7.3psd and our trucks would sit in the parking lot the same amt of time and he would cycle the plugs and bump the key and it was running. i have 8 good glows and injectors and ip and mine does not start as good as his does. thise was during 20*F temps as well.
