i am also no expert by far. but i have heard a lot of stuff and verified a lot of it from my ford friends. i have heard that injector o rings can cause that cold start problem. apparently it lets air into the fuel system and doesn't start right away. but ficm would def be easier to check.....

I had that problem with Injector o-rings

its sufferring from Low Fuel Pressure cuz the Orings didnt seal and fuel escapes from the injector cup causing Low fuel pressure

I knew it because I was making oil and the oil really smelled like Diesel fuel it would make a quart of oil every 2 weeks

It wwould start normal it just ran rough and misfire and tranny wouldnt shift right But everything was fine when warmed up
I reringed all 8 injectors and problem solved

I'm going to check the voltage on the ficm, truck doesn't blow any smoke ever and runs smooth all the time. Just starts funny when the motor is cold. And the way the truck snaps when it finally starts sounds/feels like it wasn't getting any fuel, so I wasn't sure if my fuel pump was going. I put new fuel filters in a thousand miles ago and the guy who owned it before me kept a maintenance/repair log and the truck hasn't had any big problems yet. Thanks for the help.

Ok, the ford dealership that I bought it from changes the oil for free for the next year. I'll look into what they use.

I would be checking FICM voltage, high oil pressure during cranking, and fuel pressure.
