Looks like the batteries are going south so thought I would ask. Favorite replacement batteries, cost? brand? Ford replacement or other brand, Sears? 2004 6.0
Your more than likely going to get all kinds of responses. Some guys run the Sear's DieHard; other Interstate and then guys like myself run the OEM Motorcraft I picked up through my dealership. I had both replaced last fall at my local dealership for $250 installed. They come with a 36-month free replacement (by any Ford/Lincoln dealer) and an 100-month overall warranty. Part of my reasoning was (A) the originals were 7 years old & still going and (B) I travel allot, so having a network to cover them if I'm out of town is/was a must. I also get free roadside assistance (jump starts) for the first 36-months.

Steve
Mine went South in about 3 1/2 yrs.
I went with the (2) DieHard Platinum Group 65, 48 month replacement, 52 month prorated for 100 month total. I've always had good luck with the DieHards.

I got these last spring and love them.
My truck has never started so quick.
I was going through batteries every 2 years so I splurged on the platinum's.
How long should the factory batteries last? I have an 06 and I don't want to wait until I am stranded with a truck that won't start but I don't want to replace them way to early either.

Load test 'em, that's the only way you'll ever know how healthy they are. But mine were still strong after 7 years in the truck, I replaced both of them because I work out of town...didn't want to push my luck any further. I put one of the batteries in our '02 Explorer...still fires right up, no problem.
So I first went to Sears, got a real shock when I saw the price of the platinum group 65 battery, $214.00 ea so I guess I will bypass that store. Just for kicks I went to Costco, they have good batteries there. A group 65 with 4 year warranty is $89.00, so where do you think I am going to buy the battery from? it is a no brainer, same group and same size. I have used these batteries before in my scout and they are just as good as the big ticket ones.
I've always been an Interstate battery fan. Used them in everything. But I also will tell the other side when I am disappointed.
Had Interstates in my truck, and had one fail after only 26 months. We were traveling away from home, and didn't have the receipt with me. Long story short, the warranty was worthless. In fact, the Interstate dealer said that even if I had the receipt, he would have to pull the batteries, fully charge them for days, and then load test them before I could get an exchange. Even if I had the receipt, and even if I were at home, pulling my batteries for a couple of days would not be an option. Like I said, the warranty is worthless. Cost of each battery was $99, and that was at an automotive repair shop where prices tend to be high.
The battery in my wifes Escape was an Autozone 84 month. It was starting the SUV fine, but load testing in the failed category. It was 4 years old. Took it out and drove it to Autozone where they tested it and agreed it was toast. Again, no receipt, but they didn't even ask for it. We were in the computer as having purchased that battery. Instant prorated warranty and I walked out with a new battery.
My opinion is changing. I do NOT believe all batteries are the same with different labels. But the convenience of chain store warranties is important.
ORTs been in the X for 6.5 years and still going strong. I expect to get 8 to 10 years out of them. I have a yellow top Optima that was in a T-Bird SC for 5 years (2002-2007) and I now use it for spare/utility battery.
Optimas have the same 3 year warranty as the others.

Bill, I have to completely agree. I don't like the big box stores...but when it comes to a support network for batteries, tires or any other wear item, they're nice to have. I haven't had a chance to find out about the batteries in my truck, but I have on the tires. It's worth the time and to put aside opinions about box store/little man when your 600 miles from home with a flat tire.
