Start by removing the harness from the 2 g set up. The fuseable link is on the solinoid this one is on my 90
As you remove the harness, remove this plug and all wires with it completely
Remove this 2nd plug, clip the green/red tracer wire at the plug. My finger is pointing at it, you will re-use this one
Hopefully you saved the harness when you got the alternator.I'm hoping this next picture loads
Using the last picture in my last post,The threaded post to the left gets hooked back to the left side of the plug.(looking at the back) use a 10 ga wire. The middle wire goes to the small square plug, and the green/red tracer goes to the right, that last wire is the one I told you to save.
Run a large wire (I used 00) from the post where the yellow wire comes from to the bottom of your fuse ( I mounted mine on the fender)
Don't pay attention to that mega fuse, that's for my electric fans
Run a 00 wire from the top of the fuse to the solinoid where the fusable link wire came from
Here's a picture of the fuse
That's about all there is to it. your guages will still work, and the small battery warning light in the dash still works too.
Your next project will probably be the fans
One note, I'm glad that you needed me to write this up, my smog pump locked up, and was wearing the belt completely out. I would have lost the belt on the next trip out!!!!
my smog pup locked up on my 88 it was a horrible sound haha. but it got replaced and all was well darn emisions grrrr lol but yea fans and oba are deff next. i still need to find some heavy wire and that fuse holder but everything else is lookin good so far! thanks
and so im clear here the green wire / red tracer is the i circuit operating the battery light and voltmeter?
no, that is your "key" it energizes the alternator when the truck is running. the volt guage and warning light come from the other wires in the fuseable links, under the new big wire coming in from the alternator
uhhmmmmmm so they are at the solenoid then? no splicing needed? and lowes or home depot really? never woulda thought that? and i have a whole roll of i believe 4 ga wire i used when i set up the plow, is it a bad idea or no?
4 guage is about the size of a finger??? if so that should work. The only splicing is the gree.red. you will have to dig it out of the harness jacket that you are removing. Once you start pulling the wires off, it's real easy.
Just make sure the fuse is 175 amp!!!! plow will cook it quick if you don't. I have 2 fuses, a spare in the glove box.... never know when you have a problem, lol
