Mystery engine
Recently I have had to replace the timing cover and water pump. Since I was into it, I decided to replace the fan clutch as well. When I went to NAPA I got a new clutch, and took it home, only to find that the shaft was too large, and the fan blade did not fit over it.
I do not have a pedigree for the engine, but I believe it is at the very least a big block. The fan cluch I had on it has a part number stamped on it. It is 27103097. The parts store was not able to find it in their cross references. I looked for some identification on the engine block. I found something resembling a sequence just above the starter. That number looks like 8Y-3160, but I cannot make a lot out.

Is there a way to find out what I have. It is possible they fixed it "frankenstein" style, and slavaged parts from someting else. Or I believe it might be either a smaller engine, or earlier year. Does anyone have any suggestions.. Thanks in advance........
For the clutch, it depends on if you have A/C or not:
E9TZ-8A616-K (replaced E3TZ-8A616-l in 2/90); Marked E3TA-NA; Fits 83/87 F250/350 w/460 engine without A/C
E9TZ-8A616-L (replaced E3TZ-8A616-P in 10/91); Marked E3TA-UA; Fits 83/87 F250/350 with A/C
Bob Allen Ford in Kansas has both; Tel 913-381-3000

I have changed my fan clutch MANY times and never encountered this.
(I have no A/C by the way)
Looking at some of the other posts, I also know the manifold is below the valve covers, and I have the original service manuals for the 86 and the diagrams look like what I have in the truck.
I am almost to the point where it might just be easier to get a fan blade with a larger opening, and go that way. But I am curious as to what I really have in case I come to the point I want to tear everything down..

If the timing case and water pump fit, it is definitely a 385 series engine.
I would bring the fan clutch back to NAPA and compare it to one of the same, or the non A/C version.
See what the counter guy has to say about it not fitting your application.
