Fan clutch?
Howdy guys,
My engine is making a big "whoosh" sound that's new to me whenever I rev it. The fan won't spin when the engine is off, so I'm wondering if
a) the fan clutch is shot or
b) there is no fan clutch and I just never noticed, and the whoosh is something else!
Is there a fan clutch on an 89 302? Thanks

Yep!
I've heard of the clutch failing and shooting the fan through the hood - now I've heard of it seizing.
There are four bolts that hold the fan to the clutch and four bolts that hold the clutch assembly to the water pump shaft and pulley.
Mine started to wobble last year so I replaced it with one off my donor '88 engine. 87-89 are all identical.

Just an update -- its all fixed, exactly like tom said. 80 dollar part, 20 minute fix (and 20 minutes convincing the guy's at O'Reilly that I needed a fan clutch, not a replacement fan kit. Yeesh!).
