I am changing the transmission fluid on my 04 and i cant get the external filter off. I used an impact like the thread in the tech folder said, but it wont come off. I also tried a breaker bar but everything just starts to flex and i am afraid something might break. Can anybody guide me on how to get this off ? I dont know what else to do.
I had same trouble with mine and i took a racket strap and wrapped around frame of truck and bracket of the filter and used a breaker bar good luck that thing is a b$@^ch
I finally got it to come off!!! I sprayed it with more pb blaster and tapped around the filter with a hammer. Hit it with the impact two times and it broke free. Thanks for all the help guys I really do appreciate it. Its all back together now, no leaks and it seems to shift a little smoother.
I'm no mechanic by any means and i want to learn how to do as much stuff on my own. I enjoy working on my truck when things go smoothly but I have come to find out things never go smoothly. I think that is just how it goes, and lack of knowledge on my part, at least i know the things are getting done and done right. Any way hopefully the transmission filter won't be so hard to get off next time, that was a pain!! Are they usually that hard to get off because they go through so many hot and cold cycles, or was mine just a case of being put on too tight by the last owner/ service person?
Kind of off the transmission subject. What is the name of the product that you put in the fuel tank to help clean the injectors? Is it just motorcraft diesel injector cleaner and do you just put the whole bottle in before a fill up? I was gonna add that since i did an oil change as well last night.

That will work, or Power Service DieselKleen (gray bottle). And you do want to pour it into the tank before you fuel...as you fuel, the incoming fuel will agitate everything and get it mixed in well.
