Three or four speed

Is a 1983 ford f150 4X4 5.8 liter a three or four speed?

There were 3 & 4 speed manuals; also 3 & 4 speed autos.

Assuming it's an auto, the three speeds (C4, C5 & C6) had a shift indicator on the dash that read - PRND21.
The 4 speed auto trans (AOD) indicator read - PRN(D)D1

Thank you. I guess adding the type of transmission would have been an intelligent item to include.

Assuming it is an auto, it would have been a 3 speed auto from the factory, if the 5.8L was also factory. The AOD was not factory installed behind the 5.8L engines in 1983. It was only used behind the 4.9L I-6 and 5.0L V8.
