Trans Question?

I have a 66 4x4 352, with a 2 speed in it. I am not a ford guy, have had all mopars all my life, but I really like this truck. I would like to put a 500 horsepower stroked small block ford in it and have the transfercase rebuilt to handle the power. I need to know what kind of transmissions I could use? Can I use a Ford AOD? Or do I have to stick with a certain model 3 speed? Any Info will help,,thanks guys

2 speed?

What the heck does that mean?

There's no such thing as a 2 speed trans used in any 2WD or 4WD truck.

1966 352 4WD transmissions available.

Ford Type 3.03 all syncromesh 3 speed manual (3 on the tree).

New Process 435 4 speed.

The AOD was a terd of a transmission, wouldn't even hold up to a 302.

The only place I'd stick an AOD, is in the scrap pile.

My truck came with a six cylinder, some body put this combo in.... Is their an automatic 3 speed that will hold up and will bolt up with the transfer case?

250/292 and a powerglide Bill..................a Gasp "Chebby?"

500 horses on a small block.....takes about 10 grand to make that power without juice or a supercharger/turbo. let alone build a transmission to handle it.

What 2WD or 4WD Ford truck came with a two-speed Ford-O-Matic?

N-O-N-E = NONE.

What 4WD F100/250 from 1965/66 - 6 or V8, came with an automatic transmission?

N-O-N-E = NONE.

Something smells, and it ain't hay!

If this truck has an FE engine (5 valve cover bolts), 4WD and an auto, it's from a 1973/76 F100/250 4WD, the engine is a 360, the trans is a C6 = 3 speed A/T.

OP, post the VIN from the registration, lets see what this truck was originally.

You know what they used to say Dave = Slip and slide....with Pow-er Glide.

I know it takes more $$ to make a ford go fast Ha. I know all about Mopars and making them go fast. We have a 31 Ford model A with a 416 inch small block mopar in it that runs on the street with pump gas. It went 9.66 @ 138, It has about 675 horse. weighs 2700 lbs.

I saw a company that has a 500 horse 427 small block that makes 500 horse carb to oil pan for 7 grand on racingjunk.com I am trying to find out the strongest 3 speed Auto trans I can use with this transfer case.

Are you guys telling me ford never made a 2 speed trans for the v8. The guy I bought this from said it was a 352 with a 2 speed. Maybe third gear does not work?

That is exactly what I'm telling you.

No Ford truck with 2WD or 4WD ever used a two-speed automatic = none.

No Ford truck of this vintage with 4WD came with an automatic of any kind.

3 on the tree, or 4 speed manual only.

Look at the trans pan:

14 trans pan bolt holes = MX Cruise-O-Matic.

17 trans pan bolt holes = C6.

Both of these are 3 speed A/T's, but no Ford truck with 4WD used the MX Cruise-O.

1973 and later 4WD's with A/T are all C6's.

What 4WD F100/250 came with an MX Green Dot Cruise-O-Matic?

N-O-N-E.

IMO, someone swapped in a C6 from a 1973/76 F100/250 4WD.

Which could mean that the engine is a 360, not a 352.

If the seller was klewless enough to think it had a 2 speed A/T, what else is wacko with this truck?

What transfer case do you have? That is the piece of info needed. You can get a C6 for the SBF ( I have one for sale ) then hang a late model T case from a full size bronco or something. The pieces are out there and its only money, hell throw some my way and I'll help you build it.
