ATF fluid

When Mercon LV came out, it was stated that it is compatible with Mercon SP and could be mixed.
However, if and when I need to change over to "LV", I will do a flush to ensure I get all of the old "SP" out first.... why, becuase I just don't buy or understand how two different spec'd fluids can work together properly... each has it's own spec and I get it... but two specs together causes me concern.
This is why I only use single spec fluids (even in my powersteering system) and I do not mix oils between summer and winter (I just use Rotella Syn 5W-40 year round - since 3qts of old oil always stays in the high-pressure oil system).
