I am getting a Romp Romp Romp still. I have changed the batteries, GPR, Glow Plugs, and 50cent mod. It was only -2 degrees C this morning. Left the Glow plugs on for a couple minutes before firing. Only thing I havent changed is the 15w40 rotella. Could it be to heavy of oil or am I missing something else in the warm up period?
I have decided if it's below 30f I just plug it in. Mine has started down to 24 this year with only 1 or 2 romps, but I have just started plugging it in. The starter sounds much happier and I have heat right away. Water is around 140f and oil about 90f when plugged in.

Get a timer and run it for about 2-3 hours just before startup...save alot on electric bill (if you plug it in for 8 hrs/night it will add about $1/day to your electric bill). Three hours will have everything good and warm...but 5-40 syn in the winter will make everything happier.
Some trucks seem to be more prone to get the "romps" than others. My 00 rarely does it and even then it has to be single digit cold out w/o plugging it in to do it again all while running dino 15W40. We have a couple of other trucks of the same age that'll romp even @ modestly cold temps. (20's)
Don't really know why but we've always chocked it up to differences in hpop's, sensors & injectors. All running same fuel, oil, filters and have been similarly maintained and driven. This has been the way of things since they were all new.

Next time you change your oil try something like Rotella t5 10w-30 or t6 5w-40. I started my truck at 28*F, by no means too cold, but the truck didn't romp at all.
I usually run Rotella T 15w40 non synthetic, so Ill switch over to 5w40 synthetic for the winter but what about in the summer. Should I continue running the 5w40 syn or can I switch back to a 15w40 non syn?
Your choice, IMHO I would run the conventional for most of the year and t5 or t6 in the winter. If you want you can run synthetic year round no problem. Many do, i don't strictly cause of the cost.
I run 15W40 year round and plug the truck in if the temp drops down below freezing. 'Romps' don't bother me. It is what it is and the 7.3 is cold-blooded.
See what bothers me is how sluggish the truck will feel when cold running 15w40 in the cold. Feels like I an driving an oversized k-car but I also don't plug my truck in ever.
