Does anyone know where I can get a vacuum canister? My Bronco doesn't have one where it should be and idle is pretty erratic. The tranny doesn't always respond correctly either...maybe the TSP? And are there any good junk or salvage yards near southeast Alabama, Florida panhandle area? Thanks.
I don't know where you could get the canister(autozone maybe), and I think that you mean TPS as in throttle position sensor. I just replaced mine, it runs and idles better. ($28) at autozone. its right under your throttle body and you need to remove it to get to the TPS. it will help with the shifts, or at least it did for mine!
good luck.
Did you have to do anything special, like align it, when you installed it? I've read that you have to align it properly when you install it, but the new TPS that I bought and haven't installed yet doesn't look like it really allows for any rotation.
yeah, it says for you to align it, the old one left a mark where it was and thats where I put it. The new one works just fine. did you get the code 63? I know there is another code for the TPS. Unplug the battery when you go to replace the TPS so it clears the codes in the memory. Check here, http://www.dalidesign.com/hbook/2digit.html[/url]
Actually I'm not getting any codes. I bought the TPS for some reason about six years ago and never put it in. Could it possibly give any improvement to put it in?
my guess would be no. I'm no expert but thats what I think. anyone else that knows more about the TPS, he needs to know if replacing the original TPS (still good) with a new one would make the engine run any better?
I replaced it today since I already had the part. I don't think it really made a difference, so I kept the old one. I guess the answer then is no, if it isn't throwing codes, then don't replace it.

The Haynes manual tells how to test the TPS and every other sensor on the engine, using a digital multimeter. You can see the procedure to pull the codes here and there's also a link to the full code list.
