I would like to find out from you gentlemen what you think a 2000 F550 is worth? Its a auto with 107K on it. I have two lousy pictures of it sitting on a lot and my wife is interested in the 5er behind it. It has the RV set-up on the back, I don't even know what's its called. It appears to be all stock except it does have three gauges, boost, EGT and oil pressure. At least the previous owner, who I don't know who he is or what maintenance he did, had the sense to watch EGT's hopefully. Anyway, a rough idea would be appreciated. I told my wife that my 96 PSD could handle it but you know how that goes. I didn't check the door tag but didn't they put like 4:88 rear ends in them? THANKS PS, what is that bed called?
Bed looks similar to a western hauler style bed, or at least that's what I've always called them.
In my opinion, the value of the truck should be around $10K +/- 2-4K for location/condition, desire. Market is still pretty high for these trucks so maybe as high as 16K, but IMO that's too much.
We always called it w/h bed too. Funny thing is, my wife hated our camper b/c "its just taking the kitchen along with us." I sold it. I bet she would have hated having the washing machine too......lol
I don't know what the truck would be worth on the market today, but you'll find that you will wish you had the 550 to pull that trailer if you sell it.
I think that particular one has the Western Hauler bed on it.
Mind has a Truckstell box, which I like better because it has more room in the side boxes, but they are out of business now for some reason.
Both trucks have the same engine, but that's where the similarity ends.
The 550 frame, springs, brakes, etc are rated for roughly twice the weight that your '96 is.
The 550 will get you around 10.5mpg towing if you keep the speed to 65.
The vast majority of them have 4.88 rear axles.

I think Al nailed it on the price. Our local VFD just bought a 2000 F-550 4X4 with low miles. The Chasis is worth 10k - 12k. I have seen listings for beds like that for 2k-3k don't know what they are actually selling for. If it has air ride rear that would make it more valuable to me but would not change the book value.
Skip, funny about the sticker, the 5er and truck have SD plates on them.
Carl, we take off for six months every year from AZ, have to take the kitchen, lol.
Dan, my 96 has pulled a 42' enclosed car hauler loaded to 26K from NE to AZ no problems. I don't know what my wife is concerned about. It would be nice to move up like you did. I remember you well on the OBS forum.
CG, thanks for your opinion. Its not a 4by4, no air bags. I've put my heart and sole into the 96, I don't know if I want to start all over again.

I can see by your tagline that you truly have put a lot of work into the '96.
Just don't trade off that 550 until you've tried it out.
You may find that it's capabilities will impress you and you will want to keep it.
Ignoring the drivetrain, I had a F250 that I pulled my Cedar Creek with before I bought the 550 and it did OK, but was maxed out.
The 550 is built for all that weight and handles it 10x better.

I agree, the 550 will be also be safer handling that weight. Better brakes and more stable. A good set of tow tunes and you will be set.
It is a 1999 f450 it needs work but it sounds to me that all it needs is the tank dropped and the screens cleaned. I it has a 6 speed and a GV splitter on it... that would be a dream to tow behind.

lol...i've seen/read the same listing. In general, if "potential buyers" have an "idea" and an AE, you know how much you can SCORE on these trucks, that are priced WAY LOW cause, they just dont know??? Theres onw here (long beach), says somethings wrong with it, just over 100k, and he wants a GRAND for it
I was thinking of picking it up if it had an Auto trans in it. I would love to have a crew cab for my work truck so i could haul the kids but it would be a lot of work to swap the bed over to it since I welded the hoist supports on the frame when I built it... you know it can never be too strong when you hang a ton up to 6 feet off the back corner of the box. I would love to have the gearvendor on my truck though.
My wife would kill me if I bought another truck right now. Plus that is a lot of work to swap everything. I drove my stick shift for 10 years in rush hour traffic and after driving this slushbox, I am spoiled. I love a stick for towing but that is it.
Thanks for all your comments. I took my wife down to see it and her comment was NO! She doesn't have the ability to see thru the dirt. I was going to offer him 20K for the 5er and F550, which would have been a good deal IMHO. A good cleaning and it would have been a good deal. That's assuming the pickup ran good. It had two dead batteries in it and it was jammed in the back of the lot with no way out without moving a bunch of campers. I'll stick with my outfit in my signature for awhile. I just spent money on Mor/Ryde 8K independent suspension with disk brakes, WOW does that make a difference. I almost feel that I can tailgate now with those disk brakes, JK! lol
