Does anyone else dig the look of a muscle truck? I was wondering because i wanted to get two different tire sizes for the front and rear for my 86 f150 of course when its time to change them out.
just an idea what i was going for
of course my wheels dont have that staggered look to them so i would have to get a bigger tire size in the rear.
I think they look nice, but once you set a truck up that way you may as well forget about using it for truck stuff.
So true, but it does look nice. I guess you could put some air bags on it or something like that, then you could still use as a truck sometimes (at least a little bit).
My lightning is a Muscle truck and I have the same size tries all the way around. I put the biggest tires I could fit in the front and the same in the rear.
It's not just you. I'm doing the same thing to my 86 F150 SWB. Pulled the 300-6 and put in a 408 Stroker, and am working on the frame, four link suspension, air bags, dream beams up front, etc. Got lots of 4.9L parts listed in the classifieds, as a result. Oh well.
Finally got the entire wiring harness out - replacing it with a new American Autowire Universal kit. Also pulled the bed this weekend in preperation for a 2 inch C-notch to make sure I have frame clearance, and yes, I'll add additional reinforcement on the interior of those frame rails. I'd say, go for it. Good luck with your project.
I run 245/60/15 fr and 295/50/15 rr. They are a bit on the small side height wise I think, but it looks alright. I lowered it 3/2" but I need to get the body on it to see where it sits now.
Yes you lose 'truckability' with fender clearances, but with those street tires and sidewall rating with a tire like that you have to watch how you load it anyways. I had two dirt bikes (CRF 450X and a KTM 250SX), two rider's riding gear, suitcases and coolers for a week long trip at about 750lbs +/- in the long box with about 4'' clearance rubber to rear fender lips.
I've got 225/70/15s up front and 275/60/15s out back on 15x8 Dodge wheels....and I still use my truck to do what it was made to do. I've loaded the bed with 800 pounds of scrap metal, another time I had two fridges in the back that I carted around for almost a week (blew out my rear shocks in the process....lesson learned), I've helped people move (at one time I loaded the bed full then loaded a small box trailer chock-full of more stuff)....
No problems so far... In the future I'm wanting to do a 3"/5" drop on it with Dream Beams up front. I do know that will affect how much I can safely load in the back without bottoming out though.
I saw a truck like the one in the first post earlier this summer. The paint wasn't perfect but there was no rust, I think it was a longbed. I didn't really care about that series of truck, but the second I saw it I wanted it. It's probably gone now....
Blue80 has an awesome truck, I've seen it in person. It sounds as awesome as it looks. The wife and I went over to his house and saw it. He also gave me a bunch of left over parts he had. He said he was going to take most of what was left to the dump. I don't know if he ever did or not. I think he made his wife keep her suv outside so he could keep his truck in the garage.
Wow fellas i didnt think i would get many replies lol.... all i have to say is Whoa baby Blue 80 thats the look im going for but i was thinking of 235/70's in front and 255 70's in the rear
here what my truck looks in the summer she has 235 75 r15s the average truck tire,
but on the stock steel wheel she has 225 75 r15s
I love the look but MPG is important to me to so probably never see a 408. Mine looks a lot like your's fordboy but with 31x10.50 now. Plans are for 235/70 front and something about as tall but a little wider on the rear. Don't know if I will ever do the 3/5 drop but would like it a little lower.
