Hey guys.... Not trying to be paranoid,( I refer to it as heightened awareness), but in a sense I guess I am. I am getting very close to 200,000 miles on the odometer and worry about issues you guys have had on your trucks with far less miles. That being said, as you can see in my sig, the only real performance mod I have is the superchip. I tow a skid steer,an enclosed trailer and a pontoon boat from time to time, but it is mostly my daily driver. I have had the truck 6 years and have done quite a bit of preventive as well as needed work to it. I have not been under the valve covers, nor do I know if the p.o had. It runs very strong, idles very nice, and overall am happy with its performance ...TODAY. We all know thats subject to change, right? Anyway, I recently ohmed out the injectors and the all showed resistance of between 0.7 and 0.9. Heres the issue.... should I be worried about the injectors? It seems that a lot of newer trucks with far less miles, have had injector issues. Any advice? Bill
No reason to worry.
I recommend that you watch your mileage as that will be a good indicator of injector performance. Also, keep visiting this forum and continue to educate yourself in case something does happen. Many times the fix is fairly easy and you can be back on the road in short order as long as you carry some supplies and modest tool kit.
No reason to fix things that aren't broken but it would be wise to make some time to get under the valve covers to perform the $0.50 mod and torque down the injector and rocker arm bolts just for some peace of mind. Fairly easy job in your driveway...a little more stressful on the side of the road.
Thanks Greg, I've thinking along those lines and pulling the covers is next on my list. Just wanted to get some input as when I pull them would want to do all that is necessary. I really make a serious effort to keep it below 2000 rpm's as much as I can, and I think that is what is responsible for my 18-19 mpg.
I know the $0.50 mod and doing some torquing is a must. I do run injector cleaner through it about once a month, so maybe that is helping too. Anyway, thanks, and I'll try to ease up on the ''Heightened awareness '' . Bill

Bill, check out this product hotshotsecret.com
an oil additive that cleans the injectors on the oil side.
Tried it and liked it!!
If you are already getting 18-19 mph then I don't think there is anything you can add to your fuel that is going to improve the performance of your engine.
Just my $0.02...
You might want to be watching eBay or vendors for really, really good deals on things like ICP sensor, IPR, EBP sensor, and maybe even a new water pump. Better to spend the money when the price is cheapest, when you can afford it, and to have it on hand when the inevitable does happen.
Ditto on the 50 cent mod and torque-down. May want to remove your EBPV sensor and tube and clean it out too when you want a short project (although your mileage is excellent, so probably not clogged). Both of these are "free" maintenance.
Don't forget to do a full transmission flush and filter replacement every 30-50k if you haven't done that. Bleed your brake fluid, and do a rear differential flush too...probably two of the most neglected maintenance items on most vehicles on the road (I know people who have said "what's a rear differential flush?"). Maybe do a power steering flush too.
Yup...do it on YOUR time schedule, and not on the side of the road!
Yeah that's exactly why I was asking about noticeable improvements. Not saying hot shot secret doesn't have some advantages, but it sounds like its for injectors that are already exhibiting some level of tiredness. Also, as pop said, it was originally developed for newer (6.0's) which were built to provide higher injector pressures , of which ,and correct me if I am wrong, my older 7.3 doesn't have.
Thanks Tailgate. Outside of the Brake and steering flush,I've done all of the above. Replaced hpop with a t500 a couple of months ago and took the opportunity to replace fuel bowl o-rings, icp , rebuilt ipr,new ebpv and tube, new gpr etc.etc. New water pump last year, and I wanted to do a flush while I drained coolant, but was pressed for time. Still need to do that! Need to get under the covers!!!!!!

Then again, there are those of us with almost twice as many miles on our trucks as you have on yours with very few issues. Stay on top of your maintenance and drive the truck. That's the secret to them lasting a long time. I changed my injectors at 350,000 miles because, well I had 350,000 miles on them. Brand new Alliant injectors and not one bit of increased MPG's or power.
Change your oil. Change all your fluids on a regular basis and don't worry so much. Many of the guys you read about here have trucks they picked up used where maintenance or care might have been questionable.
I agree with Chris. Just stay up on your maintenance, change fluids on regular intervals, and drive it. If issues should arise, youve got the best source of knowledge right at your finger tips. Im like you, ive got 214k on the meter, truck runs fine, gets good mileage about like yours, Im hoping to get 500k out of her maybe more. I did a trans flush and rear diff flush since turning 200k for piece of mind but everything looked fine. I ran the hotshotsecret last winter to help out with the romps, only had marginal improvements. Not running it this year, may try the RevX for comparison.
