4wd conversion
I have an '05 Escape 2wd I would like to convert to a 4wd. What all would I need and how difficult would it be? It doesn't look too difficult since all Escapes/Mariners/Tributes are pretty much built the same.

Yeah, all you need is a the PTO gearbox, driveshaft, new rearend, all the wiring, module and reprograming of the PCM! Forget it.

If it were the only option, I would buy a totaled Escape/Mariner/Mazda of the same vintage, with the same engine, and just start moving parts. That way, you have a pretty good guarantee you will have ALL the parts you need.
I think the time and effort would be unacceptable if you had to pay retail labor for the 'swap'. It is a lot quicker and easier to just buy a 4X4...
