When I start my truck the blower doesn't come on, but if I play with the area selection switch it sometimes works. I remote start my truck in the winter to defrost and warm it up, so I need this issue fixed. Please help
Most common problem is the resistor block located on the outside of the blower housing in the engine compartment.
Being exposed to to moisture they tend to corrode over time and give erratic blower opperation.
Part is cheap from the dealer and takes about a half hour to replace.
It sits under the blower motor. I took out the air filter box, washer and coolent tank, unbolted the cruise control then took the blower out. Then the resistor block is easy to remove.
If the 'area selection switch' is the same as the 'mode' switch, as in defrost, panel, and floor selector, the main power to the fan is routed through that switch. When in any position except OFF, the power is fed through the switch to the blower speed select switch and then to the blower motor. If the mode switch is flaky, you will get what you report.
I would pull the HVAC control head from the dash, disassemble the switch and inspect for obvious defects. I think the control is sold only as an assembly, so boneyard or craigslist would be a decent source for replacement if FoMoCo doesn't sell them any more.
