My 97 has 205k and runs great. I had a fuel leak I was chasing down and I removed the spider and boots. There was a film of oil in the turbo and spider. So I plugged the CCV port on the intake and vented the CCV to the air.
I cleaned up the CCV and put new o-rings on and new 3/4 hose. I started the truck and there was a little white smoke coming out of the hose at idle and cleared up a little when I rev the truck up.
My concern is the pressure that was coming out, I could feel a little bit of air coming out but when I plugged it for a few seconds and released, it had pressure built up and I could hear and feel a large amount of air escaping.
The truck has good power and runs smooth, starts fine and does not burn any oil. Just seems like a lot of pressure to me, like the rings are worn out. Maintenance has been done exceptionally well by the previous owner and me. Maybe its just tired, or maybe its normal, any thoughts guys?
It's pretty normal I think I've heard if you take the oil fill cap off and put it upside down over hole and it blows away that's bad if it rattles off it's ok my truck has 346k
And still doesn't blow it off
Same here. I wouldn't worry about it. Do the cap test as mentioned above, but that's pretty normal. The high compression of these diesels creates a fair amount of blowby.
ok thanks guys, that makes me feel a lot better. The cap test.. is that with the ccv plugged or with it vented? If I have the cap off and the ccv vented I can't feel any air movement coming out of either cylinder bank.
