so just as i get done putting gauges and a dp f5 on my truck i decided to open the oil cap just for gee whiz... and low and behold a little smoke comes out. not a lot at all. and definetly not enough to shake the cap loose while upside down. i am just wondering if any is bad or if a little is normal? i hope so because i just finished one project and dont want to hear bad news. so, come on good news or just neutral news would be good...

Then you have nothing to worry about. Pressure is what you should be concerned with. My truck smokes differently between cold and hot engine, fresh and old oil, and even different oil types. Smoke is normal on the 7.3 so don't worry about it.

Like Chris said I wouldn't worry about the smoke. Turn the oil cap upside down or use a golf ball. If it blows up that is not a good sign. Here is a you tube video CPU made:
