ya know - as I think on it, we should (SHOULD!) do a test case here to see JUST HOW HIGH you can jack up reputation points

AND I WILL GO ALONG WITH IT ON ONE CONDITION

!) We only dump pre-meditated REP on Ken PAYNE.

I've seen this before - and you guys are missing it. If rep becomes as cheap as a deal you swung with ten other guys - IT'S FAKE!

Where I saw that before?

(get ready for this)

THE NORTHWEST CHAPTER

And do you know, as I think about it, why they were thought bad of to begin with?

They cheated the rep system, as you are, and the reaction to that was that these guys had wild rep, yeah.

BUT IT WAS FAKE

So you really want to ask yourself before you continue this "Rep Party" if that is how you want people to see you...

(TRUST ME - you don't want these people to feel in their hearts that you're a POSER)

THAT is the one and only problem I got with this.

Actually, Wolfie is right.

Those northwest guys all got the boot in the end. Disappeared. There was one guy who was the leader and he actually had some good fabricating skills. The rest of them were mostly wannabe's and lame followers of the one leader.

I got in some scraps with those guys over their extreme ideas. You know the type, "more is better."

The rep system is losing value, and I have been taking part too.

So guys, don't give me any more routine reps, OK? If I say something you think is rep-worthy that's different.

As of right now, [I just checked,] I have 5658 rep points and the last couple hundred have been gratuitous or reciprocal. But thank you all. Before this began I didn't even know how to check rep points. So it's been fun and I thank you each and every one. Especially Wolfie for being frank about it and pointing out what it is and what it's doing to the system.

Cheers!

I did not start this thread for any reason other than an information seeking inquiry.
I don't know how it evolved into the rep central that it has become.
As for my benefiting from the explosion of points, yes I have.
Dutch points out a valid concern as to the value of the points being undermined.
I give points to users that I've encountered over the years.
My "LIST" currently has 84 names.
That results in my visiting a particular user maybe once every 9 -10 days.
There are others not on my list that receive points from me.
Everyone of you have seen my name in your rep received from list.
If I were to explore each and every post across FTE I would be able to give every point I can to deserving informative, entertaining, humble and just plain good posts.
I can not give that time for such a exploration.
A quick look at post counts reveals those of you that do have the time.

As for the closing of this thread;
Why?
There has not been any violation of rules (that I know of) to justify that act.
Yes the "Powers that Be" are within their rights to do so.

I've got to go to work now and will leave this here.
But as I've said before:
I'LL BE BACK!

As Bryan said, most of the people here, are people I have come across over the years, with some new names added in.
I have no list written down, but I know who deserves reps, and who don't. I try to be fair when I give reps, and usually don't just give them to give them.

A few pages back, you will see that a battle of sorts was started by a member, and you will see that I stated then, I like the reps, but they're not going to fill my gas tank

Actually the rep points mean very little to me. I happened to see this thread and asked a simple question. Then it became a simple game like the 2/3/and 4 word challenge to see if you can get to the top of the trash heap, lol
I still want to hang out with you guys

Not sure why things always take such a "serious" turn with reps...

Someone has to be #1 and everyone else is chasing them...

If everyone feels the person at #1 has such great wisdom (sorry Brickster...nothing personal here)...but if folks feel the #1 slot is posessed by someone with better things to say and is thus earned more so than everyone else...well...I'll call BUNK...sorry...

The person in #2 slot posted earlier today or yesterday...getting to #2 on the list is NOT EASY and again...not something that just "happens"...

If you notice many of those on the first page are Mods or Admins...by nature those folks post a LOT...then you have steve (sddesigns) who posts the MOST of anyone.

For those that feel the rep system truly means something of value...I also call BUNK because when I first joined FTE many years ago...I saw folks with greenies out the ying yang (technical term)...and I thought WTF does that person add to the forums?...I posted many technical topics in the Ex forum (where I mostly hung out) and noticed that hardly anyone of the regular posters who spent hours on the boards posting GREAT INFO and they only had 1 or 2 greenies...and I thought WTF is wrong with this picture?...guys/gals who only seemed to post in the General area seemed to have lots of greenies...also I noticed folks in the Super Duty forums having lots of greenies...

From the get go of my time on FTE...I quickly realized the rep system meant nothing other than a game...but maybe that's just how I interpreted it based on what I saw with who I saw with lots of greenies and what they posted...

I guess if folks don't want to "play"...that's cool...I take note of who I hit and who hits me back...if folks don't hit back...I stop hitting them...but I also know what it takes to make it to the first page of the rep list...and I have a hard time agreeing that someone can make it there on "merit of posts alone"...sorry...Mods and Admins by nature are going to "help" peeps...and will get reps because of that...yes...the rest of us schmucks...well it is a game once you get to near the top...plain and simple in my mind...

Not meant to inflame anyone...just stating my $0.02...

Joe.

I hope the party doesn't end .. I have not had so much fun here since my friend Bill Passed away .. The tech forums that I used to hang out in have kind of gone to pot as far as "tech " goes ..

For the most part, those in the game already had all of our "beans" to begin with , all that is changing now is something that new posters will most likely never be able to find (points list) or care about ...

First and foremost this thread is a Social thread, not a Tech thread. I enjoy the thoughts and inputs of everyday life from the guys. I enjoy the one liners and conversations with all. If you look through this great thread you see NO fussing and etc. I consider us all as one, as a group who enjoys conversation on the light side. A group who sets their worries and problems aside for a few minutes each day to relax and kick their heels up so to speak.

This is a fun thread, and one should take it as what it is. A tension release. The thread has done more good than harm. We all know where to go and have a good idea who to ask for a mechanial problem.

Just look on this page at the pictures X_Hemi_Guy posted of his fishing trip. If those photos don't make you feel good then something is wrong. Thats basically what this thread is about, it about having fun. We have over 442,000 members and we are a small part of that membership but at least we have an idea of who each other are.

I hope I haven't offened anyone on this post because I like everyone of you guys. I look foward to everyones thoughts and inputs. May everyone have a great day and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Wait, the reps don't mean anything? I was under the impression that you guys thought that everything I said was very important and were giving me recognition for it. You know what... I don't want to know. I'm still gonna tell people that what I say matters.

I certainly didn't mean to offend everyone. I got caught up in the game just like others did and I began having misgivings because 442,000 members are in the "game" and are unaware of what we were doing. Please, no-one take offence! But the rep system is imperfect as it is. I know most of my reps have been for humor, political posts, and for helping others. Helping others is the least of those for me. When I came to FTE, it was to get answers to a couple of questions. Got my answers and hung around. I went to different tech areas and gave advice and help. In most areas there are some guys who call that home and who field most of the questions For instance, I answered a lot of questions in the electrical forum, and I found that Franklin is always there and was as able as anyone to answer the questions. [really smart guy, cool avitar!] So I felt like that was handled, That happened in different areas and I drifted into the "club" and that's where I spent most of my time. I've had a lot of fun and stimulating conversations. That is also where most of my reps have come from. When I found this thread I tuned in because I wondered about the rep system. I had a question in my mind, what happens in the long run with reps? I had been getting reps for quite a while, the green things had been maxed out for a long time and I wondered if anything else would ever happen. I guess not, but It was fun finding out.

But again, no offense intended and I did not mean shut down the game. I was just saying that I don't want reps because "it's my turn" or just for the hell of it.
