So I own a 93' f150 xlt 5.0L that when I bought it had, or at least I was told it had a faulty EGR valve, which wasn't a big deal to me because I figured it would be an easy fix. The original symptoms were just as they should be for that kind of problem: At operating temp there was hesitation while accelerating from a stop and every once and a while it would die on a turn during acceleration and when in reverse. For a while I just unplugged the egr valve at the vacume port and it ran just fine without hesitation or stalling but it was affecting my gas mileage so i decided to replace it. Long story short I replaced the EGR valve and the EGR sensor on top of the valve and the problem still persists. Before I waste more money on parts that work fine or have to go through my repair manual anybody know a common problem that I could check right away before going through the whole EGR system check process?
I don't know of a problem, but if I were you, I'd block-off the EGR from the intake. I used part of a coke can to block mine off, but they sell block-off kits. It should give you more power, and keep your mileage better than when you unhooked the vac line.
I have similar problems with my F150 and I took it into my shop and they said it's carbon buildup in the EGR port that needs to be chiseled out to unclog the system.
Holy crap can't they just replace the port? and if not then I think I might just end up making my own egr deletion kit. Thanks for the input. and just out of curiosity kentuckyredneck what mpg are you gettin on your truck with the egr blocked off?

I get 12-14 depending on how I drive. I never got more than 16mpg since I've had this truck though. It has around 190k on it and needs a new engine. So if you have a good engine, you should do fine.
alright thanks again. Because I've already dumped money into fixing it i will try to fix it before i delete it but either way something needs to be done because I'm currently only getting 9mpg. I discovered today that my oxygen sensor is missing and that might just be partially the cause,
