I think I may be alittle bit in the dark with this whole EGR discussion. But something doesn't make sense to me.
EGR coking is bad, right? why? Many people disconnect them anyways. wouldn't having a clogged EGR give the same result as disconnecting it? Is there something I'm missing?
Coking of the EGR causes it to stick. It can stick Closed, Open or anywhere in between. If it sticks in any position except Closed you have a problem. The EGR valve only opens under certain engine operating conditions, if it opens at the wrong time it will cause problems.
When you see people un-plug the EGR valve, they do it with the engine turned off. With the engine turned off the EGR valve is in the closed position.
