2000 7.3 will not start
Do you get a Wait to start light when the key is on?
If you have the filter bowl drain open and the key is turned on does fuel pour out of the drain?
Is there more than 1/4 tank of fuel?
Is the Tin nut on the back of the IPR?
When it died did you get a Service Engine Soon light?
The way to test the IDM would be with a BUZZ test, and checking codes. Maybe your diesel mechanic friend has a capable scanner and could pull the codes for you?
You can also test all of the wiring if you suspect IDM or injector issues too.

I've been chasing white smoke starts for a year or so. Two different Ford service centers visited. Two glow plug relays installed. This last time they said it needed a new IDM. I took it home when they said $1200 and 3 hours of labor. Got an IDM from Norther Auto Parts and it was a GB reman unit. Installed it and no change. I did perform the tests recommended in the GB tech bulletin at the IDM plug. Everything was good except cylinders 5 and 7 read about 6 ohms. From reading tons of other posts on this site, I've got some good resistance numbers for glow plugs at the valve cover gasket but haven't found anything for injector resistance as measured at the valve cover gasket receptacle. I'd like these numbers to try and rule out the wiring between the IDM and the valve cover gasket.
I'm tired of the dealer replacing stuff and nothing changing with the operation of the truck. I get 10 or 20 seconds of white billowing smoke whenever ambient air is below 50F and engine is cold.
Thanks for your help!

Why not start a thread with your problem, rather than bugger this one up with multiple problems? After a while, everyone will be confused as to the problem being addressed.

So, this is one for the wall of shame. I asked the service tech at the dealer 2 times if he was sure all of the glow plugs were working after they replaced the GPR. He of course said yes. Well, I pulled the UVCH plug yesterday and measured resistance on all pins. Guess what, 3 completely open glow plugs!
I'm dumbfounded by the incompetence or the straight up lying.

Should I have believed them about the IDM being bad?
Get to change my first set of glow plugs soon.

No, One gone in left bank and two in the right bank. Lucky me. Everything else including injectors ohmed out fine.
I've read enough on FTE to feel fine doing the the plug change thanks to everyone's helpful posts.
