Tow/Haul

I have only had my 05 F350 for about 6months and dont know much about towing with it.. I just got a small pop up camper(weighs about 1k lbs) and would like any suggestions from you experienced towers. I am going over mountain passes this weekend and will be towing the trailer, obviously I will keep it in tow/haul mode, but anything else to watch for? Thanks in advance!!!

chains, check tires, grease your ball (I use axle grease its mess as hell but works) make sure you have a pin in the ball keeper, check your lights.... with that light of a trailer and Tow/Haul mode if your in icy areas try not to let it down shift "in" turns that trailer will slip n slide. as long as your not flying you should be alright.

That truck isn't even going to know that that trailer is there.

I agree with 69cj. I have pulled a variety of weights. A pop up at 1K is going to be nothing for the truck provided you're in good operating condition to begin with. Do ensure your trailer brakes are set correctly, your connections are tight and that your E-Brake cable if equipped on your pop up is attached to the frame or other firm connection point but not to tour hitch.

Good towing practices can be found on outbackers.com, I am a member of that site and you will find many helpful people at tips. The site is for primarily Outback Travel Trailers and fifth wheels but we have SOBs (some other brands) there too. I am off my self this weekend for the last time this season!

As light as that trailer is, the truck won't notice it's back there...other than the trailer brake controller should light up, provided the trailer has 'em & they're wired correctly. My truck never noticed our pop-up which tips the scales at 3400# (king sized beds on each end). I don't even activate the tow/haul feature on my truck until I get over 6000# on the hitch and that's just for the help slowing down.

You don't need to use tow/haul if you don't like the way it drives. I suspect with that light of a trailer you will be better off with tow/haul off.

Exactly what I was thinking. It might be nice for long downhill stretches in the mountains but otherwise not necessary.
