Fuel Capacity

I have a 2011 Super Duty Power Stroke. the dealer told me they thought it had a 28 gal tank, but i think I have decided that it has the 24 gal instead. I would really like to have more driving range.

Has anybody done any mods to their truck to add fuel capacity.

The guys at the accessory shop suggested that I put a 30 gal tank in the bed (I have a shell on it) with a gravity feed and a filler on the shell. I'm a little reluctant to cut a hole in the shell, and my experience with this kind op deal is that there will be unforeseen problems with it.

Ideally, I would add a second factory tank with a switch to change tanks, but I would imagine that it would be near impossible to get that done and that it would cost over 2 grand to get it done if it could be done.

If any of you have added fuel capacity I would sure appreciate your input.

Some of the guys in the 6.7 forum have replaced the factory tank with the Titan 50 gallon on the short bed trucks.

Do you have a link you could share on that?

The last link is actually a video of one of our members installing his. There are a lot more threads in the 6.7 on the subject.

Do you stop filling when the pump shuts off or do you continue to fill until the fuel settles at the top of the filler neck? The fact that you suspect a 24 gallon makes me think the former. But without knowing more about your truck, model and wheelbase, it's hard to tell which tank you have.

Here's the information on the brochure,
Fuel tank — 35-gallon capacity (gas engine only)
Fuel tank — 26-gallon capacity (F-250/F-350 137-in., 142-in. and 156-in. WB with diesel engine)
Fuel tank — 37.5-gallon capacity (F-250/F-350 158-in. and 172-in. WB with diesel engine, and F-450)

I guess I have the 26 gal tank then. Yes, I do stop fueling when the pump shuts off because every time I have tried to top it off, it only took another .25 gal or so before it started running over.

Is there a trick to topping it off?

On AUX fuel tanks, if you have been reading Rick's issues with the warranty repairs on his 2011 6.7L you will note the message from Ford where one of the items they can use to void the warranty is an AUX fuel tank

Pumping very slowly or in short intervals while watching within the filler neck to avoid it over flowing. That's what I do.

I know how you feel about these small tanks. 200 miles towing and time to fill up again...and again.
My 2008 short bed crew cab has a 28(?) gallon tank, and that's one big reason why I am taking delivery of a LONG BED 2012 F250 today. 37 gallons.
I find the idea of a big truck with a small tank (and limited headroom - see other threads) more than a little weird.

Maybe it's different with your truck but when the pump shuts off on mine I can get almost 3 more gallons in. Just go slow and watch the filler neck, it does go down and it might take 5 min for those last 3 gallons, but that's more miles to the tank.

I have a 09 F250 CC LB, it came with a 38 gallon tank. I have a V10. Try looking up a company called TRANSFERFLOW. They make all types of tanks for Diesels to replace your stock tank.
