Does anyone know a way to accurately calculate the maximum tire size I can install on a stock height 2011 F250? Its a 4wd R/C with the 6.2 if it matters. I talked to two tires shops, and one said I couldnt go wider than a 285, but the other said I could fit a 315, but neither would confirm the aspect ratio to go with either width...
Factory it has 265/70/17's, which is like 31.7 inches tall if I recall. I am having trouble finding a 285/70/17 in a tire that I like, but I found a 33x12.50x17 in a style I like. However, I think it will be too wide up front if I am making a turn and hit a bump-you know, one of those murphy's law occasions?
So, any tips would be appreciated, also any tire recommendations-I am looking for extremely good snow traction, and wet traction/resistance to hydroplaning. I don't care about road noise either.
I put 285 nitto's on mine. Of coarse i stayed in the load range "E" to maintain my 65psi required. I think 33 x 12.5 will be to wide and only load range "D"
The only two tires i considered were the terra-grapplers and the BFG.
I would run the 285/70 R17 Load D or E. I ran those on my SD when it had all stock suspension and they cleared just fine. Going to the 12.50 wide would be too much I think and 315's on stock suspension is just asking for rub/fitment problems

Any tire brand suggestions? I have had great luck with cooper and sumitomo's brands for NTB. General tire makes an AT2 that i want, but they don't have it in my size.
My 2011 SD came with 275 70 18 tires I switched to 295 60 20 Nitto Terra Grapplers on factory SD rims from a 2009 SD.According to Nittos web site the tires are 34.45 12.36 20 they look great on the truck and I have not had any rubbing at all.

Nice truck! Mine show look almost identical except it's a Supercab and I will probably keep the stock wheels on it. Same color, cab lights etc.

Tha looks PERFECT! Is there any difference in backspacing or offset with those wheels from your factory ones? If not, then, in theory, I could put a tire with the same outside dimensions as you and be just fine!

They are SD wheels from an 09..... so yes you can put the same size tires. Remember the larger the tire the less mpg you will get. Most don't care, i'm just say'in.

I currently have BFG All Terrains on my truck and am fairly impressed with them. I should see over 50k miles and they've been a smooth riding very quiet tire. However the price tag is right up there.
Before these I had a set of Kumho Road Venture A/T KL78 in 285/75 R16 on my previous truck and was also really impressed with those as they are a fairly inexpensive tire but snow/wet/mud traction was amazing and they weren't really too much noisier than my BFG's.
It all depends on what you're trying to get out of the tire. Its always a give and take. You give up quiet smooth ride for max traction tire ect.

Are the 09' 20" wheels the same width as the 11' 17" wheels?

If they are the same width,...then I should be fine to put wider than 285's on them. If not, then I could start looking for a set of 09' wheels?
That looks fantastic! 35x 12.50's and NO rubbing? Thats awesome...I may just be holding off on tires a little while until I can afford some bigger ones...that looks sick man. Nice rig!
On an older truck once I wanted to try 35's tire discounter put them on just to see what kind of rubbing. I was getting tire regardless so they were nice about it. I would like to put bigger tires and at least all terrain on my 2011 crew cab superduty, but spent enough money all ready.
For those that have changed tire size have you did anything to adjust the speedometer.
