What tranny in my 59 C800?

1959 C800

4 spd manual with PTO on driver's side.
Trans code on data plate is K.

I found a 1960 decoder but it says that K is a Clark 5 spd, so that's not right. I assumed it was a T98A but I understand the PTO would be on the passenger side and I can't see a T98 stamped on the cover.

My 3-4 synchro is shot, so I need to figure this out and order the kit.

Thanks to whoever can help me out.

1957/63 Ford Truck Parts Catalog ~ General Info Section ~ 1957/60 Transmission Types & Codes.

1957/59: K = Clark 5 Speed Direct.

1960: K = Clark 5 Speed Overdrive.

1957/60: F = Borg Warner T-98 4 Speed Manual Transmission (C550/700 & F100/700 only).

1953/63: The T-98 was the only 4 speed available for any series of truck. But was not offered for anything larger than a C700, F700 and etc.

The T-98's PTO cover is on the right (passenger) side. Ditto: New Process 435 4 speed that was introduced in 1964.

The Clark 5 speed's PTO cover is on the left (drivers) side.

EDIT: 206969 is a CLARK 5 speed part number. While I couldn't find it listed in my 1964/72 Manufacturer to Ford/Ford to Manufacturer parts cross reference chart, I found others that are close.

Clark: 206967 = Ford: TFAA-7158-A .. Gear-Output Shaft-Fourth Speed / 21 helical teeth / 16 clutch teeth.

Clark: 206970 = Ford: TGAA-7203-A .. Transmission Gear Shift Lever Housing.

While these may not be your exact Clark trans part numbers marked on these parts, there will be other 6 digit Clark numbers marked on parts that begin with 20 - 21 - 22 - 23 - 28

So, are you saying I've had a 5 spd all this time and didn't know it? Honestly, I've never really tried to put it into fifth because the guy I bought it from said it was a 4 spd. Reverse is to the right and up. Is this the case with the Clark 5 spd? Would it be the Clark 265V?

The VIN is C80F9U26776. What engine does the "F" indicate?

Thanks again. I appreciate you guys with the resources taking time to help me out.

What truck 4 speed manual has the PTO on the drivers side? None that I'm aware of.

265V-59 5 speed Direct Drive.

The VIN is C80F9U26776. What engine does the "F" indicate?
C80 = C800 Tilt Cab.

F = 332 4V (Lincoln derived Y block).

9 = 1959.

U = Louisville KY Assembly Plant.

26776 = Numerical Sequence of Assembly (the trucks specific serial number).

The 1957/63 Ford Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com.

faxonautolit.com has original and reprinted Ford owners & shop manuals, original sales brochures and etc.

Thanks again NumberDummy. I really appreciate all of the information.

Has anyone found a source for Clark parts? Surely someone has had to rebuild one of these.

Might be easier to find a used transmission than find the parts and rebuild that old bugger..

I thought I would update this post with the shift pattern for this transmission. It might come in handy if someone else stumbles upon this thread for information. The pattern is a little atypical, but it makes sense for 1st to be where it is because it is ridiculously low. 7.58:1. Lower than reverse!

The link for drivetrain.com given by the user above does have the master bearing kit available as well as the synchro assembly (if you ask). I haven't bought any parts yet because I think I would rather just replace the synchro assembly than spend the money for a complete rebuild. So I'm still working on finding someone that will sell me just the synchro assembly and gasket kit.

Since you mentioned the NP435 above, the T18/T19 have PTO covers on the driver's side.

Since you guys were so much help last time, I thought I would start here this time. We have the tranny out and we thought it would be a good idea to have an exploded view before we start tearing into it. Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of that drawing. As noted above, it's a Clark 265 5 speed.

Thanks,

Josh

Contact Green Sales Co. (greensalescompany.com / help number: 513-731-3304), ask them to scan and email the Clark 265 pic from this catalog.

I cannot give the the illustration section/page number, as I'm using a different version of this catalog.
