fmc, I have looked almost everywhere for a oem return line but I can't find one. I tried LMC, Dennis Carpenter, Bronco graveyard, NPD, Blue Oval, I can't find one!!
Had the same issue with my new Redhead steering box. Rather than taking the trouble to take it out, ship it back, and then re-install I ordered new fittings from greensalescompany at $2.50 each.
Followed Mike's advice, only took about 1/2 hour, most of that was dealing with trying to minimize the mess from the fluid. After getting it all back together it looks like the leak is fixed. Thanks Mike!
Anyway, for reference here is a pic of the old vs new fitting. You can see why it leaked so bad clearly.
P.S. I know this is an old thread, but I thought it might help others facing the same problem to see what the fitting looks like and why it could be causing the leak.
This thread helped me a lot. I have been battling this leak for years now so I wanted to give back. It looks like most of the parts centers previously listed in this thread no longer have these parts available. I was able to google one and find it, but the other was harder to track down. I had a buddy who works at a Ford dealership look it up for me.
For whoever needs this thread next, as of November 2020:
374309-S is available at Bowen Scarff Ford Lincoln Parts - I was able to find this one through google.
374480-S is available at Bell-Mccall ford & Ray Seraphin Ford - I was not able to google for this one
Well here it is 12 years later and still paying it forward. 3 years since the last post. Not sure if this is my problem yet but my magic eight ball is saying it’s leaning that direction. 78 f150 w/429. New pump, hoses, and you guessed it, redhead gearbox. I’m guessing y’all head a heck of a time bleeding your also? I’ll keep the thread updated. Thanks.
