power steering return line problem

i searched the forum and didnt really find an answer but the return line coming out of my gear box going up to the pump will not screw back into the hole. it might be cross threaded by the last person who worked on it(im like the 4th owner and im sure several mechanics have messed with it) but i am just checking to see if anyone know of a common problem that these have or any tricks.

i would really suck to have to try to re-thread that.

What do you mean it won't screw back in? I guess it is leaking.

Indeed, more info on the issue is needed. This is, however, a low pressure line, and therefore you can use a sealant paste to stop the leak, if all else fails.

Which place is leaking, on the steering box?

Never had my return line loose, but I have an O ring on the pressure side.
I would think there was an O ring on the return side as well.

My truck has a flare on the pressure side, which is indeed different from older trucks like Dave's that use the O-ring setup. Dunno about the return line fitting tho...

hey guys thanks for the response, the previous owner or who ever touched the return line coming out of the gear box last had cross threaded it, so i just got a tap and some grease and re threaded it. it goes in fine now and doesnt appear to leak. the metal part of the return line was also bent, which is probably why it got cross threaded in the first place. the previous owner must have been pretty sloppy.
