i have a 78 f250 that i want to turn into my bush buggie, (the 79's for the street) and im looking for a stepside longbox, every one seems to sell all the parts but the box sides, any help is much appreaciated thanks
I have never seen the long sides for sale.
Long wheel base Flare-Side beds are vary rare and I believe there was not enough demand to make replacement sides.
You might could take three short ones and cut, weld and splice into two longs???
If its not necessary to look 100% accurate, u could buy some sheet metal. 16 gauge should be about right i believe (im sure thats what i used to build a hood scoop anyway). and have access to or know some 1 with a press brake u could make your own bedsides. Thats what id do, id love to have an 8ft stepside for 1 of my pickups!
was doing some traitor work on lmc, found out they have a compleat long box stepside for the 70's chevys, got some thinking to do to figure out if i want to degrade my truck like that or not, what do you all think?
If your not doin a concours restoration or even a restoration using parts only for ford then u can use what ever pieces u feel will work. I tried findin a few pics of the chevy long step side and the top obviously doesnt look like a ford box if u bolt ford style fenders on the bolt holes wont line up and some holes may be exposed on the outside of the box (if the chevy fender is longer than the ford or if the fender sits in a different location) holes will definitly be exposed on the inside of the box. weld filling may be necessary depending on how u want the box to look.
Sucks they reproduce those for chevy but not ford!
it seems to me the 8' flares were more common on the 61-66 body style. Im pretty certain they used the same fenders, but slightly different bed sides. I personally never cared for the longer version of the bed, but they are different for sure.
