Engine runs rough

I have a 2005 F-150 stx 4wd with a 4.6L V8. My engine started running rough and my check engine light came on. I went to Autozone and they did a scan and said cylinder 5 was miss firing. I changed the plugs. I just took it for a drive and it still runs rough when I press the accelerator and when I turned on my drive way it shut off. I restarted and drove it down my drive way and parked it. Anybody have any ideas?

It could be the COP (Coil on plug), or sometimes the plug wire/boot will break down and arc across causing a misfire, Could be a number of things but try wrapping electrical tape round the number 5 plug wire to see if it was the culprit.

I put new boots on with the plugs. Is there anyway to check the cop before I buy one?

With the engine running unplug and replug each individual coil to see which one may be causing the misfire. You can swap the cop with another cylinder to see if the misfire moves with it.
