4.30 Gears, Why?

4.30 Gears, Why?
Why did ford start offering 4.30 gears instead of the 4.10's they always offered before that? What is the logic behind the 4.30 ratio, which I think started with the 3v modular V10?
Is this some magic ratio for these motors? Why isn't the new 6.2 gas motor offered with 4.10's?

i saw a guy saying that he liked 3.08 gears lol.
honestly though, it probably seems a lot like having 4.56 gears except that you are down a gear... and first sucks.
one day, i'd like to swap 4.30 gears in, IMO a 5.4 NEEDS more gear than 3.73 to be useful for much other than just driving around.
even maneuvering around in dirt with a bed full of fire wood seems like a struggle some times.

Because the 3.73s suck the big one in a gasser. I would have made 4.30s standard in all gasser 250 and 350 trucks made 99' and later. I'd rather see only 4.30s and 4.56 available. The 4.56s will be good for people who tow near max GCWR and/or want to put slightly larger tires on.
agreed..
the V10 and 3:73's is a AWFUL mix.. should never have been avialable if you ask me..
4:30's are a great starting point, should be a option for above that really.

At the risk of being accused of hijacking a thread, I am about to order a 450 and was wondering if it is better to go 4:30 or 4:10 This will be a steak body work truck pulling 12k on a regular basis plus maybe 2-3 ton in the back. And a plow truck. I'm thinking 4:30's am I right?

With an F-450 and a diesel engine, I would select the 4.10 ratio. If gas engine, the 4.30 ratio. Why? Because the diesel engine has more low end torque.
