motor swap help

i have a 97 f150 with the 4.2L is there any other motor that will work with little or minor modification to the truck?

4.6 and the 5.4 also came stock with this model year. i know that or a fact because i have one

not sure how much extra work will need to be done..

Define minor modification. To go from the v6 to an 8 you will need, the ecm, complete wiring harness, ignition system if the new motor has COP, mounts, possible trans (not 100% on that). You won't have to worry about the PATS as that came out in 99/00. Do some reading on the site here and you will find a ton of good information. The general consensus is to simply buy a truck with an 8 already in it and it's much easier that way. Best of luck to ya!
