Question just a few ??

ok guys i got a 97 f150 4x4 that my dad gave me. at the moment it has no motor in it. he got screwed by a shop that was going to put a new motor in it a few years back and they closed and sent the truck back to my dad with no motor and no bolts. im going to find a motor in a yard and put back in it. it had a 4.6w in it and i know the motor i go back with has to be a 97-99. i also have read the minor diffs between the 4.6 and the 5.4. my ? is if i were to get a 5.4 out of a 97-99 donor with the harness and computer would this be a fairly straight foward swap? thanks in advance

I would recommend staying with a 97 or 98 because there were several changes with the 99s that would cause some challenges.

Navigators are 4V. A 99+ swap isn't that complicated. If you still have the engine harness you can use the stock one on a newer engine. There are a lot of threads on these swaps and people have done them on this site.

The problem will be the ignition. The 4.6L had coil packs that year and the 5.4L had COP's so the easy way is to use the original coil packs on the 5.4L. There is a way to upgrade to COP's from coil packs:

UBB Error - Crownvic.net

You may have to register to read that. It isn't a true swap but it makes COP's work with a coil pack engine if that's what you want.
