Wanting to get Remote Start for our 2005 Excursion V10. Does Ford not make an OE Plug-n-Play system that does not require the butchering of the factory wire harness. I'm not too hip on letting a stereo guy cut up the underside of the dash, AND have two key fobs filling my pocket.
I installed a remote start on my 97 f150 last year, bought the kit for $100 from Autozone and that included the keyless entry. Wiring wasnt too much of an issue, I did it all myself. The only thing with the Excursion is the PATS key security. Autozone sold another kit for about $60 bucks to bypass the PATS for the remote start, but I would imagine the wiring for that would be a little more intensive.
Forgive me as it has been a long time since I did them but in the several years i did remote starts I do not ever recall seeing a harness that would make them plug and play. For one thing I do not think there is a single harness that would hit every wire you need to make it work properly and then running the plugs to a place where there is one to tap into would be a complete nightmare in several vehicles. At least when I did them we almost never cut the wires under the dash unless it was required to make it work, IE security bypass where there was a resister in the key and we added in that resister with a relay to trigger the correct resistance to start the car.
From what i remember on the pats module you have 2 options one put the ring around the ignition and get it just right, some cars just about anyplace worked and some cars were VERY picky. second option is cut into the pats wires and splice them into a harness from the module, I never did this as if there ever were to be an issue with the module you could be stranded as the car wont start.
It seems like they did come out with a module as i was getting out of that line of work that you could program and did not require to put a key under the dash but you did still need to have 2 keys to be able to program it but it also seems like it was a bit temper mental and was also like $99 instead of the 60 that the one that used the key ran.
Now I have not done this in over 6 years so things may have changed but that is how it was.
I just got an alarm/remote start put in about a month ago and boy has it been worth it. I did let the radio guy cut wires though. Ya know I needed to buy a chip override sensor and I have a key under the dash somewhere, with the teeth cut off , just in case. When it's 105 or -10 you'll be glad you can hit a button and relax.
