I am most likely going to order a 2012 f150 Platinum with the Eccoboost. I am starting the process of searching for accessories. One of those is a topper.
Has anyone ever bought a Snug Top. They look awesome, but the nearest dealer is 400miles from me. If it is awesome the distance doesn't matter.
I have an A.R.E on my truck now but it leaks. Of course it is 10 years old. dealer less than 10 miles.
I've got a BAK-FLIP F1 on my 2010 XLT. I like it mainly because it's flush mounted, keeps the bed dry and so far has been of very good quality. There are several brand choices of bed covers and it more of a personal choice and how much you want to pay.
The BAK-FLIP take about 20 minutes to mount and 5 minutes to completely remove if you need to. I would recommend anyone looking to buy a bed cover watch the BAK-FLIP video before deciding.
I am in the same boat as you, driving a 2002 Ford Excursion with the 7.3 for hunting, camping and hunt test with 4 dogs the truck is crammed full of dog crates and gear.... I am still wrestling with the F250 or F150 choice as we will be getting a larger travel trailer in the future that will tip the scales loaded around 8500 lbs. I know that this is well within the F150 capacity with the max tow and HD payload, but I want my driving to be relaxed, not near limits and white knuckle....
I am looking at the ARE tops with the side windows that have sliders and tilt up to open and provide much better air flow while parked at HT grounds.
Best of luck with your decision. I will be watching this thread for pictures and thoughts.

Labcab, if you're planning on a truck stuffed full of gear and dogs, plus an 8500# travel trailer, you need to go to a Super Duty. Load the truck up and add the tongue weight of that trailer and you're going to be over gross.
jtvsjr,
Thanks for the input. I test drove an F250 with the 6.2 and a F350 with the 6.7 yesterday. They were both awesome trucks, both engines have their +/-. I am sure I would be happy with either. After sitting down and doing some calculations I am better off sticking with the Excursion for a few more years and letting these engines "age" and continue to improve before I upgrade. I have the Excursion enhanced with a mild lift, larger tires and a few other upgrades, plus with only 170k on the clock it runs great and the maintenance has all been done by me.
When I do upgrade it will be to a superduty for sure! I am just too much of a pack rat to fit the nitch for a F150..... Good thing they are both great platforms!!!!
I will go with an ARE cap when I do upgrade though.
If you're going to a Super Duty, take a look at the Knapheide Knap Kap. It's similar to the ARE commercial unit, but steel rather than aluminum. I had one on my 2005 F350 (which I disposed of after floating the heads 3 times in 98K... fracking 6.0) and it was a beast. I figured I could easily total the truck and that box still be in fine shape.
I guess I should have said I want a camper topper. Any suggestions would be great. Pictures a bonus.
Also, those two covers look really cool, but I have to have a camper topper for hauling the dogs to field trials and hunt tests.
Thanks again guys
Had a SnugTop Canopy/Cap/Shell/Topper whatever it's called in your neck of the woods on my last truck (2010 Toyota Tacoma). Have to admit of all the shells I have owned I liked it the best. On my tacoma it had a built in clamp system. Had the SuperSport model. Top of the line. Spendy but to me it was worth it. Used it primarily to haul the dogs in back. Good luck on whatever you decide.
I have an Eagle Maverick cap on my 06 and it's great. No leaks, and overall pretty rugged. I had an ARE on my 95 F150 and the Eagle blows it away quality wise. I also had one on my 05 SD. I liked it so well I got one for the F150. It's about 4" taller than the cab.
